Bag Number Three-Simple bag with iron buckle.- SOLD

This bag was made to order and the new owner will pair it with his flintlock for some hunting in Peen's Sylvania. The bag is made from vegetable tanned cowhide and has a decorative scalloped flap. The fringe has been dyed to give the appearance of use and the bag is designed to look used as well. There is wear on the front corners and the dye is uneven as if it had been worn in the sun many times. This bag was sold for $120.00 and will include a primitive speed loader. I have some loaders made up as well as flint and steel kits in leathern pouches. Contact me for a bag, pouch or what have you from the 18th century. I may next try to make some moccasins. We shall see.- The Dumb Dutchman

December 25th

And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Cæsar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.  (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)  And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.  And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judæa, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)  to be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.   And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.  And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.  And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.  For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.  And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.  And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,  Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.  And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.  And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.  And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.  But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.  And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.- Luke 2

Native American Inspired Bag- SOLD

Even a cursory perusal of early hunting pouches will show a native influence no matter who carried the bag. This bag is the second that I have completed and is made from soft cowhide and is not lined. there is no buckle on this strap and it hangs almost to my waist as a 6' tall man. I can add a buckle or extend/shorten the strap at your command. The strap is now approximately 44" long. All stitches are hand sewn and I use only flax thread. The leather is covered with a proprietary  dressing to both protect and serve as waterproofing The large beaver tail styled flap has been stitched with frontier folk art that is also reminiscent of the floral patterns of the Great Lakes tribes. The red dyed deer hair and tin cones lend a native influence as well. The bag is decorated with a scallop along it's upper edge as well as an inner pocket sized for your smaller tools. The bag is 9" wide and 8 1/2" tall. . All seams are covered and the flap is both scalloped and fringed.  Did I mention it's hand stitched? This bag took me more than 25 hours from start to finish. This bag will come with a warranty card that gives the owner a lifetime repair promise. If you wreck it, I will fix it. All you have to do is pay shipping!  The card will also state that this is bag number two from Dumb Dutchmen Leather. I would like $95.00 for the bag. Contact me for details and payment procedures.

My first bag for sale.- SOLD

This is the first bag that I have made. It is made from cowhide and lined with pillow ticking. All stitches are hand sewn and I use only flax thread. The leather is covered with a proprietary dressing to both protect and serve as waterproofing. The design is stitched into the front flap and is illustrative of early frontier folk art. The bag is dyed dark and there is no shine to betray you in the woods to hostile eyes whether they be animal or human!! The buckle adjusts the strap to fit where you like your bag to ride. Some folks like it high almost under their arm and some a little lower. I prefer a bag without a buckle that hangs at my waist. The bag is 9" wide and 8 1/2" tall. The inside pocket is sized to hold your smaller shooting tools, a smaller ball bag, patches or what have you. All seams are covered and the flap is both scalloped and fringed.  Did I mention it's hand stitched? This bag took me more than 20 hours from start to finish. I would like to sell it for $95.00 and shipping is included. This bag will come with a warranty card that gives the owner a lifetime repair promise. If you wreck it, I will fix it. All you have to do is pay shipping!  The card will also state that this is bag number one from Dumb Dutchmen Leather. There will never be another number one. Contact me for details and payment procedures.
